Do you know that there are lots of people who still do not know that Oprah Winfrey is actually a nurse? This is because she has made many contributions and advancements in the field of health and wellness and has helped many people especially African Americans as well as women in certain ethnicities. She was actually born in Kansas City and was a very good student until her early twenties. As she went on to college, she did not get along with some of her classmates and so she left school and started something else. However, one thing led her to enter into teaching and later become a nurse.

During her early twenties, she had already established herself as a nurse but was asked by her employer to take a break from the workplace to go on an assignment in Africa. It was there that she saw poverty, disease, and the need for help and that is what changed her life. Although she was not allowed to work as a volunteer, she did manage to get herself involved in the civil rights activism in the area. As a result, she developed a lot of her skills as a social worker and nurse and she even gained a degree. She continued on to work for the United States military in Vietnam and even worked on a humanitarian mission in India.

Now that she is an executive officer, Winfrey has also created her own publishing company called Harcourt Publishing which has a lot of books based on health and wellness. Some of the books she has released have been bestsellers and she has also gained millions of dollars for the company. Even her movies have also done very well and she is very popular among millions of people all over the world.
