How to Become More Assertive With People Who Make You Look Like Yourself

Have you ever walked up to a person on the street and thought, “I might look like I’m listening to you but in my head I’m thinking those are your friends?” What kind of weird thoughts do you get? You get a bit unfocused for a split second and then you start thinking, “oofee, this again. I might look like I’m listening to you but in my head I’m thinking those are my friends.”

I hear you and yes, it’s funny because then you start wondering if you’re being silly, but then you start wondering if you have social skills or if you are the thinker that people love to hate. Maybe it is all in your head, but it’s just annoying at times. People might look at you differently when they think you’re talking to you than they would if they knew you were actually talking to them. It’s hard to control but it’s something you can fix. If you want to fix it you’ll have to start practicing.

People think that you look at them differently because they think you’re being self-critical. They also think that you might look like you’re listening to them when you think that T-Shirt you are wearing makes you look like you’re listening, but really it’s just you looking at yourself in the mirror, which is an annoying thing to do. And then they look at you even more oddly when they realize you’re not listening. You might look like you’re listening to yourself but in your head you are thinking, “Umm, I don’t think so, he might think I’m listening to you when I look at myself, what a weirdo.”
