I Go to School in My Pajamas – I Can Afford a Traditional College Education?
“I go to school in my pajamas,” my roommate proudly proclaims. I look her in the eyes and smile, “I know what you mean!” We’ve both known for years that we would have to put up with a lot of housework, but at least I get to go to class without worrying about whether or not my sweat stains will show. It is an expense we can live without for now, but I still find myself thinking how much easier it would be to have a reliable T-shirt at my disposal. A cotton t-shirt with a logo or picture of my class, printed directly onto the material, would be perfect for my quick-catchup on my way out the door before I hop in the car for the long walk back to my dorm.
I might have been able to go out onto the field to catch the first plane home if I had a shirt to wear, but I don’t, so I settle for a light sweater underneath my work attire. This doesn’t do anything for me and I’m fairly certain no one else in my peer group does either, so I settle for the convenience a shirt offers. After all, it is not as if I have to worry about catching or losing a football, soccer, or baseball ball while out and about, so I figure there’s no reason to go dressed the nines.
For some reason, I still get cold feet when it is cold outside and I know I should probably invest in a pair of mittens, but I can’t bring myself to pull off a college-style beanie to keep my head warm. I imagine countless others like me struggle with similar issues. Having an easy, comfortable way to stay warm, no matter what the weather, is definitely a plus. With my hectic schedule, I sometimes don’t even get out of bed in time to make it to my classes before the end of the day. Thankfully, the online college degree program that I use makes this a non-issue since I can log into my classes whenever I feel up to it and I don’t have to worry about missing a class in order to catch a plane, meet a friend, or make it to work. I love that my education is this accessible and that I can learn and earn money from the comfort of my home.
